How Does Collecting Social Security Affect My Railroad Retirement?
Tier 2 Video RetirementWelcome everyone to another edition of the Highball Advisors Railroad Retirement Mailbag. My name's John McNamara from Highball Advisors. Today's question comes in from a Robert D. He asks, "What happens to railroad retirement if you can collect social security before you retire from the railroad?" All right. Great question. Just recall everybody, you can't collect railroad retirement while you're still working for the railroad. That's very important. Now, if you're taking social security while you're working for the railroad, then you're going to have work deductions and age reductions come into play there, because you might be before your full retirement age.
Now, you might want to look and say, "Hey, I am that full retirement age and I'm still working for the railroad," then it's probably a very good idea to take your social security because you're not going to have any age reductions with that. Check out my video how Social Security benefits affect your Railroad Retirement Annuity. Now, we'll go through a lot of that topic. Railroaders, send in your questions. All right, may I'll shoot a video. Until next time, everyone, please stay safe, stay on track, and take care. So long, everybody. Bye.
