Will a Transportation Job Protect My Current Connection for Railroad Retiremnt?
Tier 2 Video Annuity Spouse Annuity Survivor Benefits Retirement Financial PlanningWelcome, everyone, to another edition of the Highball Advisors Railroad Retirement Mailbag. I'm John McNamara of Highball Advisors, and today's question comes from J Walker 54 31: "My understanding is if you work in a transportation-related job, you keep your current connection. What jobs are considered current connection jobs?"
Alright, so not all transportation jobs qualify as current connection jobs. They need to be with organizations like the Department of Transportation, NTSB, Railroad Retirement Board, Coast Guard, etc. It's a great point to consider because maintaining that current connection is very powerful, especially for the survivor annuity benefits for your spouse in case something unfortunate happens to you.
For more information on this topic, check out my video, "Do I Need a Current Connection to Receive Railroad Retirement Benefits?" where I discuss which jobs do and don't count for a current connection. I hope you found this helpful. Feel free to send in your questions. Until next time, stay safe, stay on track, and take care. So long, everybody!
